For some history, Daitoryu Aikijujitsu Roppokai was founded by Seigo Okamoto Sensei in 1977 Tokyo, shortly after the death of his instructor Kodo Horikawa, student of Sogaku Takeda.  Daitoryu originated approximately 900 years ago with Shinra Saburo Minamoto no Yoshimitsu (1045-1127) and was a Minamoto clan samurai.  Yoshimitsu’s great grandson Nobuyoshi adopted the surname, “Takeda” and the art was then passed down through the Takeda family.  Daitoryu is considered the precursor martial art to Aikido.
